football for the young at heart

masters football
Men’s & Women’s Masters football is alive and well at Redlands United. With six male teams in the Over 35s Qld Masters Football (QMF) competition and one female team in the O30 Women’s (Legends Ladies), we have one of the largest Masters programs in South East Qld.
The QMF competition is full size, 11-a-side football. Most matches are on Friday nights, with an occasional weekend or mid-week game. Legend Ladies generally play on a Wednesday night. Masters matches are 40 minutes per half, and have modified rules such as no slide tackling. All Masters team train at the same time on Tuesday evenings.
Redlands United first entered a team into the QMF competition in 2004, after a bunch of dads and friends had been coming down to the club for a years of Friday night kickabout. The Redlands Old Devils, who are still our first Master’s team today, entered the competition hoping for at least one win. In that first season, they ended up second on the ladder and made the Grand Final! Three of the originals from 2004 are even still playing today – Bruce Jacobs, Robbie Ashcroft and Chris Hare.
Our Men Masters teams are divided into Over 35’s and Over 45’s. Our Ladies play in the O30 Women’s competition, although they have an average age of ‘around’ 50. With teams being spread across such a large range of levels, there is a team to suit everyone’s level of fitness or skill (or lack thereof!).
Aside from the on-field action, Masters football provides an excellent social outlet. There’s no better way to start the weekend!
In addition to the winter season in the QMF competition, there is an Over 35s division in the annual Redlands United Summer 6s competition. In 2021, we also hosted the inaugural Redlands Coast 7s tournament. This tournament is open to Men’s and Women’s teams in age groups ranging from Over 35s to Over 60s! In 2022 we had 32 teams from all over South East Qld, Northern NSW and even Sydney attend. We are hoping to get to 40 teams in 2024.
